So that's it. Skatepark is well in and ain't going nowhere in a hurry! It's been fun and hard at times throughout this project. Especially near the end with the loss of best mate Dan. We are currently waiting for delivery of the plaque that we are having at the skatepark, and it will be put up in the near future. As a heads up we are looking at having the celebration event on Sunday 22nd July, so keep that date free for a day of competitions and good times!

15/03/07
Today we handed over the cheque for £80,000 to Melton Borough Council so that they can pay GBH.

13/03/07
As you may have noticed, the build process is currently on a break. We are just waiting for the ramps to be finalised and shipped up to arrive on the 19th.

12/02/07
Today the work on the skatepark officially began. The process of removing the old halfpipe foundations and clearing the ground of all the debris has started. Word is that we are well on the way to the area being clear, sorted and leveled out in preparation for the fencing.

09/02/07
Work has started early! Today the access road was laid down in preparation for the big machinery to move in and there were people clearing the area of branches and stuff. Check out the new build diary for pictures and info! You can also access the build diary from the navigation bar on the left!

26/01/07
Work on the skatepark is going to start on the 12th of February. The first stage will involve landscaping the site and removing a lot of the shrubbery that currently surrounds the site. This process, which will include laying the tarmac pad, will take about 4-5 weeks - that's including times for delays. When work on the park begins we will be running a 'Build Diary' of the park's progress.

15/01/07
The designs for the future Melton Skatepark were today confirmed by all the officials. This means that we can get all financial and legal stuff sorted out for good! To give you an idea of timescale we could be looking at the latest, a May completion.

Happy New Year folks! Thanks for staying with us, we'll get a skatepark sooner or later!

- The 3ft spine ramp was originally 3 metres wide, it is now 1.5 metres wide, so that a 1.5 metre wide rollover can be placed in between the jumpbox and spine ramp thus opening up a free flowing line from one end of the park to the other. As before if you wanted to get from the rollin end to the plaza unit you would either have to air the spine or go over the jumpbox, which not everyone is 100% confident in doing, plus there will now be a channel gap in between jumpbox and spine.
- The jumpbox height has been raised to 4ft. The ramp leading up to the jumpbox is also going to have a bigger transition on it so that instead of flying just 'up', you can fly 'up and over', as the problem with a lot of jumpboxes is that they just fling you up, and not over the ramp.
- The rollin is going to be boosted up to a nice 7ft! This will give some very nice speed for the jumpbox.
- The mini ramp is going to be 5ft. The mini ramp is going to be 5 ft high, but have a big transition so that it doesn't appear to be as steep as you might think. If you think about Asfordby's ramp, the transition is pretty tight whereas ours will be longer so that you still have the curve of a lower sized ramp.
- The pyramid is undergoing a big change. It will now have the grindbox along the back edge and a new manual pad is going to be placed on top of the pyramid! It's hard to describe and is best in pictures so let's wait for them.

So they are pretty much the only major mods that are going to happen, we should be able to get the final visuals by the end of the week hopefully and I'm sure they won't disappoint!

18/12/06
Today the Melton Skaters group found out at about 4:30PM that they had been successful with their bid to the Youth Bank. We have been told that we will receive the full £80,000 that we asked for! Words cannot describe how much we appreciate this incredible amount of funding and how we can thank the people that chose our project. We are still waiting for the official confirmation and details that will come in a letter, but we know for definite that our bid was a success. Everyone who took part in the presentation is to thank for this funding, so make sure you give big credit to Mark Rankine, Daniel Wakefield, Tom Wakefield, Ben Baker and Duncan Greene, they all have just topped off our funding leading to a brand new skate park for Melton Mowbray.

So what happens now? Well, I have been speaking with Russ at GBH Ramps who thinks it will be a really good idea to get one last fine tuning session with us, because at the last session we had, the turn out wasn't exactly great, so that will go ahead sometime in the early new year. Then once we have got the design perfect we then get everything financial sorted out and GBH can start getting the ramps prepared. When everything GBH's end is sorted, we start on the site. The diggers will move in and prepare the foundation, which will take up to 2 weeks, we then can install the ramps which will be anything between 2 and 3 weeks, then comes the sound deadening which will take a fraction of that time. Then we have one hell of an opening session!

9/12/06
Members of the Melton Skaters Group conducted their presentation to members of the County Council's Youth Council today, in the hope that they will provide the final amount of funding needed for the park! Just gotta wait till sometime next week to find out if we've been successful! Check the Events page for pics and info on the presentation!

6/12/06
Melton Skaters is really pleased to announce that we can now publish the Stage 2 park designs on the website! Just click on the links below to see 2 different views of the park. Note: The park plans below will be having some very minor adjustments made to them, the height of the rollin is going to be raised to 7ft, and the jumpbox height is going to be raised to 4ft.

4/12/06
We got short listed for the £80,000! Which means we have a presentation to do, and we have been called up to do it on Saturday the 9th December (this Saturday!) at 10:15AM. We realise this is short notice but we really hope you can make it to support us like you did at the planning meeting. The presentation is going to be at the Quorn Hall (click here for map). We will be a having a practice run through of the presentation this Thursday at the Council Offices, starting 6:00PM. See you there!

3/12/06
The Melton Skaters group put up their Christmas Tree at the annual Christmas Tree Festival last Thursday. It took a lot of time and effort and we hope that this will raise our profile within the town. You can see pictures of the Tree on the Events page.

25/11/06
The fundraising event we held yesterday was a great success! We took around £175 from people playing the 'Find The Skater' game and the 'Christmas Tree Tombola'. Not only from those events, but also some money was gathered from the sale of the new Melton Skaters T-Shirts, which will be available online soon! Massive thanks to everyone who came down and supported us! The prize winners of the 'Find The Skater' game were Mrs. Bentley, who took the first prize of the luxury Christmas Hamper, second prize went to Sam Keating who won 4 all-day passes to Twinlakes. Third prize went to Mrs. Kennington who won a selection of biscuits and fourth prize was given to Lisa Taylor who received a chocolate selection box.

Check out the 'Events' page for more pics of our stall from the night.

Progress on the Youth Bank application is going well, we have finished all of the paperwork and the application will be sent off either today or Monday next week. Once our application is received by the Youth Bank we will wait to hear if we have been short listed. If we have been short listed then we will be doing the presentation to them on a date as said below in the previous post. You will hear here first as to when the presentation date will be, and we will need as much support as possible at the presentation. The presentation will be at done Leicester County Council Town Hall, but don't worry, transport is free for us. If our presentation rocks their socks off then we will get told on the 18th December if we have won the 80,000 bois.

You probably also heard that the Skatepark received planning permission. This was great news and now means that the land is officially ours to build on. Just need to get the £80,000 now to pay for it!

Also, everything regarding the skatepark plans goes legal on the 22nd November. Before, we weren't allowed to put the designs on the web due to legal requirements, but after this date we will be able to publish them on t'internet.

You may also have heard about the 'Melton Skaters Christmas Tree'! At the annual Christmas Tree festival held at the Melton Church, Melton Skaters will be participating and putting up a tree! The tree will be available for viewing from Friday 1st December to Monday 4th December. There is a small charge to get in and view the trees but it is definitely worth a visit to see everyone's efforts.

28/10/06
Apologies for a lack of an update recently. I have been seriously busy with working on the skatepark and having AS exams before the holidays. So what's happened since the last update in April? Well, we've had the Youth Day '06 where we got to see the 3 short listed tendered designs for our skatepark and then we were able to narrow that down to 2 designs to focus on. At a meeting in August we were able to meet the designers of these parks and fine tune and alter bits of their designs, after this we made the final decision of choosing the final design.

Since then, the council put in an application to apply for lottery funding which entailed a 100 page long document (whoever said the council don't do any work for the project?), that sadly got declined. So we missed out on that opportunity, but along came another. We have got an opportunity to apply for funding from the Leicestershire County Council's Youth Bank. We are going to ask for £80,000, which if we get will pretty much finish off the skatepark funds. To apply for the funding we need to fill in an application form, write a lot of information about the project, and most importantly, make a presentation to the judging board of the Youth Bank. Here are the important dates to do with the application.

Application closing date: 27th November
Short listing date: 30th November

Presentation dates: 9/10th December, or the 16/17th December (both of which are weekends)
Decision date: 18th December

So far we have near enough completed the application form, and I have written an 1000 word, 9 page long document of Additional Information about our project! I have also requested 3 letters of support from councillor Pam Posnett, Town Estate and the Local Residents group. These will all go along with the application which will be handed to Leics County Council well before the closing date of 24th November. We are currently working on the presentation and will need as many of you to turn up to the presentation date (will be confirmed when we get told when to make our presentation), so that you can show your support.

Also, you may have noticed on the site that the skatepark goes in for planning permission on the 7th November. The meeting is at 6:30PM and we will expect you to be there to back us up when our skatepark goes up for planning.

Also, we are thinking about having another tombola stall this year at the Christmas Lights turn on, it will help to raise the little bit of money that will probably still need to be raised to finish off the funds. More info on this nearer the time.

So that's pretty much it for the moment, I am still waiting for permission to be able to officially announce the chosen designers and plans on the web, but you can get an advanced preview of the plans from the link on the main page.

19/4/06
Its probably about time for an update on the progress of the project so here we go. For a start, all rumors about the park not being built are all LIES, so don't go loosing hope on it. As for what happens next with the project, the tender (first) designs of the park have been given to the council.

The council and Tribe Enterprises (the consultants) have gone through the designs and checked that what's included in the designs are what we asked for at meetings with the builders (Tipton), and what people asked for in the questionnaires given out at last years Youth Day. Basically they are doing a preliminary filter on the designs to take out the ones which don't suit our specification. Note: This is not the final stage of the design of the park. After the designs have been filtered, we then get to see the best ones and talk to the builders/designers face to face to tell them what bits we like and what bits we don't like. Don't think we've come this far to let other people decide what goes in our park. When we have told them what we like and don't like they will then go away and come up with the final design.

What's holding all this up then you may ask? Well there is an issue involved called money. At the moment, the consultants are talking with the ramp builders to get a price of the park. This will be a rough price, as understandably, any changes we want to make to the designs will have an effect on the final price. When the council have a rough price of the park, they can then find out how much money Melton Borough Council can spend on the park. This all takes time and is being done now. When the final budget of the park has been decided then we get to see the park designs and consult the ramp designers. Meanwhile you can help by raising money somehow!

When we have the final design of the park, it gets priced up, then we apply for grants from big companies and build. That's the basic principle in a nutshell if you like.

11/3/06
Daniel Wakefield, Duncan Greene and Richard Speaight picked up a cheque from Connexions for £250 towards the skatepark!

10/3/06
Tonight was the biggest fund raising event Melton Skaters has ever seen. Over 200 people turned up to witness a great night of 5 live bands. 'Elektrik Sweat', 'The Astro Pirates', 'Bygone Tomorrow', 'Dirty Little Chavs' and 'Letters To Paul' all gave brilliant performances. Pictures of the event are on the new Events page.

28/2/06
The main topic for discussion at today's meeting was the Melton Skaters concert which is to go ahead on Friday the 10th of March 2006 at 7PM. The concert will be held in the Sarson Hall up at King Edward VII school and will finish at approximately 10:30PM. The concert will cost a tiny £3.50 to get in. Bands confirmed so far are 'The Astro Pirates', 'Electric Sweat', 'Letters To Paul', 'Dirty Little Chavs' and 'Bygone Tomorrow'. We are still waiting for confirmation of one other band. The concert has been the main priority for the project at the moment as it is going to be a great fundraiser, so come along and buy yourself a bit of the skatepark. We have all been working really hard to pull this together, especially Dan Wakefield, so we hope it is going to be worth all the hard work and late nights we have put in.

Tickets are now on sale and available from the following people;
Mark Rankine,
Duncan Greene,
Dan Wakefield,
Richard Speaight,
Daniella Greene,
Jennifer Greene,
Richard Walton,
Naomi Peberdy
A few more people will be added to this list in the coming days so keep your eyes peeled for someone who know. But don't worry if you can't get to see one of the people on the list above because tickets are also available on the night! Just turn up at 7PM at Sarson Hall with £3.50 for a brilliant night. Food and drink will also be on sale throughout the night!
See you there!

22/11/05
Today's meeting was fairly well attended and location and fundraising were the main topics for discussion. The location of the park looks set to be in the originally planned place, the 'bark park'. The Environmental Health people have looked at the site and said the site is OK but, that physical sound barriers may have to be put in place. This includes a 12 foot high mound! This is not for definite yet and is still being looked into. To back up the location we need to know of skateparks that are situated 60 metres from houses, this is to prove to Environmental Health that parks do exist which breach the 100m sound barrier rule and that the residents are not too affected by the noise. A GBH park would be ideal. If you know of any parks that suit this specification then get in touch with the contact form.
On the fundraising front, there are plans to organise a concert in January. The proposed date is the 21st which is a Saturday. This date is still yet to be confirmed. It will probably be held in the evening at KEVII in the Sarson Hall, and have a selection of local bands playing. So far as the t-shirts and jumpers go, things are moving on well. It seems that we will have 2 t-shirt designs, one will have a large MS print like the one on the Merchandise page and the other will have a small embroidered logo. This small embroidered logo will also be the design going on the hoodies. Pictures of this design will be up on the Merchandise page shortly. To advertise our project even more we are going to try and get a quick film together to play on the large screen in the council office's foyer for visitors to see.

13/10/05
As said below, the location of the park is having some issues, and so was the topic of conversation at today's meeting. That left three possible locations left, the bit of land next to the playground near the kiosk in the main park, the bowling green at the Leicester Road tennis courts, and the land near Tescos. The first two possible locations need discussing with Town Estate, the people who own the land, to see if they are possible locations, and the council will hopefully have an answer from them within 4 weeks. The consultants are apparently still working on the plans for the park but the location change has had an obvious effect.
Another skate park trip is in the pipeline, this time to Brampton, Cambridge who have a park constructed by GBH, the company hopefully building our park. Believe it or not apparently the youngsters in Brampton raised the £60,000 all by themselves to complete the first stage of the park. Just shows what a bit of elbow grease can do. If they can do it, we can. The trip is arranged for a Tuesday evening in the coming month and if you went to today's meeting and put your address down you will get a letter with all the info on it. Just shows why you should go to the meetings doesn't it! The trip has been arranged for a Tuesday evening because that is when all the people who helped get the park are there, the people who did what we are doing. This could be valuable experience for our project as we can learn the processes they went through to raise money and the difficulties their park faced.

4/10/05
The location of our future skatepark could be in jeopardy! As you may know there are going to be developments on the train station site and the car park at the back of the shops on Burton Street. News from a reliable source is that the plans have changed and that new proposed houses/flats could be built. This puts the park at a 65m distance form the proposed developments and breaks the 100m sound barrier that the Environmental Health authorities put in place. It's a rule that any skatepark has to be 100m away from residential areas. There is no need to panic too much as these are just 'proposals'. If you want any more information and want to submit ideas (if worse comes to worse) for a new location then I suggest you come along to the next meeting that at the moment stands on the 13th October at 4:30PM at the council offices. This date is to be confirmed so keep checking back to find out for definite when the meeting will be.

25/8/05
There was a little article in today's Melton Times about the skatepark and the way the progress is going. Page 7.

20/7/05
There was a trip today to 2 skateparks, one with a metal surface and one with a concrete surface. The purpose of the trip was to find out which riding surface we preferred and the outcome was very in the favour of metal, helped by the fact that the concrete park was pretty shocking. For more info on the trip, check the sessions page.

11/7/05
Article in today's Leicester Mercury about the progress of the project.

6/7/05
The meeting today was another success with lots of info produced. The council have got some money to pay for the necessary legal proceedings regarding the location and getting Tribe (the consultants) in on the project. So as a fact, Tribe Enterprises are the consultants for the project. The members of Tribe are skaters themselves so they know what they are talking about and who they are talking to! At the moment we need to start thinking of ways of raising basic money for the project, money needed to fund little parts of the project but more importantly, to show the grant organisations that we are willing to raise some dough ourselves! Some of the people involved have already started work on designing t-shirts and finding out the prices for getting them all printed. A Melton Skaters video is also in the pipeline at the moment as well, check the forum for more info.
An update on the Youth Day. The event was a great success and the skate ramps were used by loads of people till after the gates closed. About 100 surveys were returned, which will be sent back off to Tribe for them to analyse and get an idea of what we want (more on that further down).
So this is what is next for the project;
- Questionnaires returned to Tribe
- Tribe analyse surveys to get an idea of what is wanted and who are the majority of users
- Tender/Specification is sent out to various ramp builders for them to produce a design of the park
- Designs come back to us for us to comment on, saying which bits we like/don't like.
- Final design confirmed by us
- Final design sent off to skatepark builders for them to give a final cost of the park. (by end of Sep 2005)
- Only when we have a final cost of the park can we start applying for grants from big organisations.

FUNDING
For the meantime whilst all the above is going on, we need to start thinking about fund raising ourselves. Ideas have been music events and magazines, these two ways of fund raising proved successful in getting money for Grantham's skatepark. Some of the people involved in this project have already started ideas for fund raising, Melton Skaters t-shirts and video, so while we're working on them, you get off your ass and start doing some money raising as well! Any ideas you have, post them on the forum and get people educated on what you plan to do.

2/6/05
Article in today's Melton Times, FRONT PAGE! Headline: '£150K FOR SKATEPARK' We don't really know where the £150K came from but it sounds good to us! If you don't get the Melton Times or haven't seen the article then click here to see it.

YOUTH DAY
The Youth Day held at the Cattle Market today was a big success. The portable skatepark went down a treat and was loved by most. It certainly attracted a crowd! We got loads of feedback on the surveys so cheers for filling them in. More news on the park next time!

21/5/05
Just a quick message about the meetings and the group. To put it simply, if you went to the last meeting or play a major part in the project, then go to the next meeting. If you don't then just read the news on here. The room that the meetings are held in is small enough without mass numbers in it. Saying that you probably all feel left out, do not fear, Melton Skaters Group is here. When we have all the major stuff out of the way, like organising the group and basic fundraising etc, the Melton Skaters Group will have it's own members, you probably included, this means that you will be able to come to the meetings and discuss further things like fundraising and the design of the park. At least that's the impression I get. Watch this space for more info.

18/5/05
The meeting held today was again an update of the progress and situation of the project. The constitution (Melton Skaters Group) was discussed, and the aims and objectives were reviewed. The aims and objectives were things like: To promote the interests of the residents in the area who enjoy skating and skateboarding, to represent the interests of these residents to the council and other organisations. These are the 'roles' of the group and a membership scheme is being worked on. Having a membership scheme will help us all to keep track of everything and tell people about important news and events. Again, the purpose of the aims and objectives are to make the group sound appealing to funding organisations.
One of the councilors involved with the project has been in touch with 'Tribe Enterprises'. These people take the role of the consultants, who are the people who consult, us. They will be asking us=you lot, what kind of things we want from a park, then 'translating' that info to the skatepark builders, i.e. GBH ramps! (They are quality designers). So that's the main idea of the consultants. The 'Tribe Enterprises' people may also give us addresses of other parks they have worked on, so we can go there and not only try them for size, but look at the real planning the people involved had to do, and possibly learn something from them.
Another LOCATION update, the rough estimates of the land are about 35 X 22 metres, which is plentiful I would say. (If you can't picture that size, the main swimming pool at the swimming baths is 25 metres long).
As legal requirements stand, there has to be a notice at the park saying; You should wear the correct safety gear whilst using this facility, etc. The councilors also suggested to us that writing up a 'Code of Conduct' for the park would be a good idea. This would say things like, no ball games allowed in the facility, no snaking, no crashing, no littering etc. Any ideas, blast um in the forum.
Back to the site again, letters will be sent out to people in the immediate area that could be 'affected' by the park. The letters will say what the plans are and how things will work. It is inevitable that some people will disagree with our project, it's bound to happen. So to try and fight those people, one of the councilors has said that they will personally go round to those people and try to reason with them. GOOD!
It is a certainty that there will be some form of press release in the near future about our project. It's purpose will be to promote the park before the objections have a chance to come in. And yes Marti, there may well be a chance for you to have your photo in the paper...

MELTON YOUTH DAY (2nd June, Cattle Market)
As far as we know, there will be a portable skate park at the Youth Day. The recent news is that the people who own the ramps have unfortunately had them stolen... They have said that they will have some new ramps by the time the Youth Day rolls around, so fingers crossed. The Melton Skaters Group had talked about holding a competition on the ramps, but as we don't even know if there will actually be a skatepark there, we have abandoned hope. And most of the people who would have been involved in the competition will be in the middle of their GCSE's by then, so they will have more important things on their minds... (Good Luck!)
But aside from that, if you are a boarder, blader, BMXer or Scootererer then get yo' ass down to the Youth Day and look out for some people armed with clipboards, they might well be us, and they will have a questionnaire for you to fill in about the 'skating scene'. A skater's survey if you like. So please make the effort to come and find us, we will probably be near the skate park if it's there, if not try the burger bar. See you there!

19/4/05
The meeting dedicated to the skatepark was held today, and was a great success! We got loads of info about where it stands at the mo.

LOCATION
To start things off, you can forget about your bit of land next to Tescos and you can forget about the warehouse near the Train Station, but you can start thinking about the old 'Bark Park'! That's right, the land near the current halfpipe is the most favored destination. It hasn't been confirmed for definite but its a 99.9% chance that it will be put there. The old halfpipe would be removed, along with the shrubbery surrounding the area nearby, to increase visibility, therefore to hopefully decrease vandalism and other sorts of trouble. So that's the area 'confirmed'. This location also been supported be the police.

FUNDING/GROUP
The next item on the Agenda was funding, the main point being, that the Council aren't really allowed to apply for grants, it just doesn't happen. They could try but would probably be turned away. So wadayado? You make a group! Now known as 'Melton Skaters'! This group will try to be responsible for applying for grants and other ways of raising money. The seats confirmed were;
Chairman: Duncan Greene
Vice Chairman: Daniel Wakefield
Treasurer: Kim Greene
Secretary: Paul Johnston
*The above information may not be correct anymore due to legal reasons concerning ages of the people involved.
These roles were confirmed by the Councilors involved and approved by everyone who attended the meeting. Any ideas you have for ramps or other things involved with the project can either be posted on the forum or you can contact the people above with ideas. These people will attempt to be present at the next 'Melton Skaters' meeting, which will be held at the Council Offices on WEDNESDAY 18TH OF MAY, 4:30pm. Be there, why?. The more people that go, the more people can express their ideas and also, the number of people that attend will effect the grant opportunities, the grant people want to know all about 'Melton Skaters'. They want to know things like, how many people attend the meetings and how enthusiastic we are about the whole thing. In other words, the more people go, the more money we get. (but that could well be wrong).
And just to clarify, this doesn't mean that all you lot just sit around and watch us do the work, consider us the 'gateway to money'. That is the main purpose of a pressure group. So get yourself down to the next meeting!

NEXT MEETING
(WEDNESDAY 18TH OF MAY, 4:30pm)
So if your interested in attending this meeting, bring with you ideas for;
-Surfaces
-Ramp ideas, not layouts as that's the job for the experts who design parks for a living
-We DON'T want ideas for locations as if you've been reading closely you would have realised we already have one
-Just be sensible, we wouldn't really want an 12ft vert ramp taking up half the area we've been given would we. Maybe a decent mini/spine set-up would go down well in it's place... Just a thought.

FUNDING AGAIN
A good up and coming source for funding will be the Melton Youth Day (2nd June '05) At this event there will be... A mobile skatepark! Now I know what you're all thinking, but it could work! We arrange a competition with an entry fee (to raise money for the park), categories would all be decided at a later date from now, but prizes could well be donated from well known sources. Rollersnakes perhaps? Just a suggestion.

TO BE DISCUSSED AT NEXT MEETING
At the next meeting, we should find out the dimensions of the area we have been given by Town Estate, we should come out with a clear view of what kind of park we want; a pipe park or street park or combination of both, preferably both to keep us all entertained. After that, the plan will probably be to get a list of the kind of ramps we want, then we pass them on to a skate park designer, someone who does this kind of thing for a living. They will then put all the ramp ideas together into a 'park', then we will give them feedback they need if we don't like certain bits. Then when we finally get a design we are settled on, we go 'Now how much is this exactly gonna cost?' And then we find out and then we go and get sum dosh! Easy as pie eh?. Just make sure your at the next meeting (Wednesday, 18th May, 4:30pm)!

18/4/05
Ahh, just a hope raiser, I just remembered from the phone call a few days ago, that the Councillor in charge of the project is hoping to have something concrete (mind the pun) down by April 2006. I know it's a while but these things don't happen overnight.

14/4/05
Whoa, ain't been on here in a while eh? Well anyway, the project looked to be dead again until yesterday when we got the phoenix's phone call to say that there is a meeting to be held; to discuss THE SKATEPARK! The meeting will be held in the near future and we will post outcomes and prospects that we get from it, onto the site. Looks like we're in business again.

26/8/04

There was a meeting today at the Council Offices to discuss where the park would be put. The main idea we all agreed with would be to enhance the halfpipe area and put in a street section around that area. There were also other ideas for the site like the warehouse at the train station, the Leicester Road tennis courts area and the grassed area near Tescos. The next meeting will be in early September after the Council have been round and looked in more detail at the sites and assessed the costs. They also said that they have looked into possible sources of funding.

Our plan for a skatepark was discussed at the last Council meeting (19th May) and our project is looking more promising. Our ideas were backed up by numerous Councilors and officers and the finances and planning are being looked into. Thanks to everyone who attended!

A photographer from the Leicester Mercury paid us a visit on the 19th April and took some pictures and got a story of our campaign. The story should be in Wednesdays 21st April paper. A Councillor has also said that they would like to hold a meeting with all the skaters, bladers, bmxers and anyone else who would like a skatepark at some time. More information when we get it. We have had an written letter from a Councillor saying that with the financial year, they will not be able to give much money for a skate park. However they did say that because of this, they are going to look into funding and available grants.
