Skatepark Guide
Here is a list of the best local skateparks around Melton Mowbray.
Boardroom
Unit 5, Thames Street, Leicester - 0116 253 7198 - (Mobile) 07775 620750 - Website
Description
Recently moved to the old Edge Skatepark location. There is a mini ramp,
the old edge bowl, or 'pool' as it is now called. Long hair must be tied
back! There is a big vert wall, driveway with long UAD grindbox. There
is also a run with two layers, banks leading to each. The rails in the
park can be removed or placed elsewhere if you ask nicely. There is also
the 'Euro Gap' which is a 4 set to flatbank gap. Flatbanks against one
wall and quarters on the other. They sell food and drink, have toilets,
helmets ARE compulsory for Under 12s, and anyone under the age of 11 MUST be supervised by an adult/guardian aged
18 or over.
Directions - Bus
Catch the normal bus to Leicester (5,5A) and arrive at the Haymarket Bus
Stop. Turn to go back the way the bus just came and cross over the
round-a-bout next to Subway (or be safe and go round it). On the other
side head for the walk-over that goes over the main road (next to St
Margaret's Bus Station) and you should be walking into a slight
Industrial Estate. Follow the road down which is right in front of you
as you come off the walk-over and turn right at the end. Follow this
road down past the large opening on the right and Boardroom is just
beyond that.
Directions - From Leicester Train Station
Go out of the Train Station and turn right and walk towards the big
underpass that goes underneath the roads. (Careful, you can pick up
quite a lot of speed here if you're on skates!) Follow the underpass to
the other side and carry right on down the road until you reach the
clock tower in the centre of Leicester. From here go down the street
past the Haymarket shopping centre (the street which has Argos and
NatWest bank on it.) and go right to the bottom past the Police Station.
Turn left at the end of the street and walk down the street heading
towards the St Margaret's Bus Station and the multi-storey car park.
From here head for the walk over bridge over the main road. Once you get
off the walk-over turn left and head into the Industrial Estate. At the
end of the road, turn right and walk past the big space on your right,
and Boardroom is just beyond this on the right.
Adrenaline Alley
Arnsley Road, Corby, NN17 5QW - 01536 202049 - Website
Description
Previously located outdoor at the Rockingham Speedway, the Adrenaline
Alley is now situated inside a large warehouse space on the outskirts of
Corby. The park contains numerous ramps, to name a few are the resi
jumpbox, bowl area, mini ramp, large intricate street section, large
jumpbox and volcano section, curved wallride, an oververt and the
popular foam pit. Recently it has become home to Europe's only resi vert
ramp alongside a 14ft vertramp. A very well established park! They sell
food and drink, have toilets, helmets are compulsory for everyone and
are available to hire for £4 (you get £2 back when you return it),
lockers are available but bring your own padlock.
Directions
Probably best to drive if you can, as public transport apparently
doesn't go that close to the park. So for car directions use a route
finder and put in the postcode NN17 5QW for Adrenaline Alley.
Doghouse
Unit 36 (second floor), Faircharm Trading Estate, (off Narborough Road), Leicester, LE3 2BU - 07753174669 - Website
Description
2 mini/spine ramps, one linked to a bigger mini ramp. 1 single Mini ramp
with sub box. A raised platform with a wembley gap. A redeveloped street
section that has a quarter pipe one side, funbox, with UAD grind box and
square AD rail. A flatbank and quarter at the other side. (Not seen in
pics is the small mini/spine behind the back wall of quarters) They sell drinks and food,
helmet not needed, toilets on the floor below.
Directions - Bus from Melton/Leicester
Catch the normal bus to Leicester (5,5A) and arrive at the Haymarket Bus
Station. Take a stroll through the Haymarket centre to the Clock Tower.
Near the Clock Tower there are a series of Bus Stops going down the
street towards Argos and Greggs. Wait at the Bus Stop nearest the Clock
Tower (opposite Pizza Hut) and wait for the bus to Narborough Road
Crossroads. If you bought an 'all day pass' ticket on the way to
Leicester, try to catch an Arriva bus to Narborough Road Crossroads to
save some pennies. Stay on the bus until you arrive at Narborough Road
Crossroads, you can tell if you are there as there is a large KFC on the
right. Dismount the bus and turn down the street on your left, walking
away from KFC, carry on down this street and carry on round the corner
to the left. Take a right down the road leading to the Industrial
Estate. Doghouse is right at the bottom of the Estate, over the river
and round to the left.
Directions - From the Quay
Go along the path towards the park and you see round-a-bout thing, turn
left along a long path. Continue past the first industrial estate and
then go left into the second industrial estate (you can see the football
stadium). Go through the industrial estate (don't skate through or they
won't let you into the park! They have an agreement with the residents
that they won't disturb people around!) and its past the river on the
left. Listen out for the skaters.
